The Winelands and Helderberg are comfortably inside our 250km service range. Two things make these moves distinct: smallholding and wine-farm properties with long gravel driveways that a loaded truck cannot always take, and Stellenbosch University's calendar, which makes late January and November the busiest weeks of the year out here.
Go Gorilla covers the Western Cape up to 250km from Cape Town, which puts the entire Winelands and Helderberg comfortably inside our normal working range. Stellenbosch is under an hour from our Pinelands yard on a good run. These are not exotic long-distance jobs, but they are not city moves either.
Farm and smallholding access
A lot of Winelands property is not a suburban house on a suburban street. It is a cottage on a wine estate, a house on a smallholding, or a converted farm building at the end of a long private road.
- Gravel and dirt driveways. Often long, sometimes steep, and after winter rain sometimes soft enough that a fully loaded truck will dig in or damage the surface. Where that is the risk we park on firm ground and shuttle with a smaller vehicle.
- Estate gates and farm entrances. Old stone or brick gateposts on wine farms were built for a bakkie, not a long-wheelbase truck. Height and width both need checking.
- Distance from the gate to the door. On a smallholding it can be a hundred metres or more, which is a real carry and needs to be in the quote.
- Security estates. Somerset West and the Helderberg have plenty of gated estates with the same contractor-registration requirements as the Northern Suburbs. Give us the estate name when booking.
If you are moving to or from a farm or smallholding, a photo of the driveway and the gate sent over WhatsApp before we quote is worth more than any description. It tells us immediately what vehicle to send.
Stellenbosch student season
Stellenbosch University sets the rhythm of moving in this town. Late January and early February are move-in, and November is move-out, and in those windows every mover in the region is busy at once. If your move falls in a student window, book several weeks ahead. It is the one time of year where waiting to book genuinely costs you the date you wanted.
Student moves are usually a small load into a res or a shared house with awkward access and no parking, and we price them as the small jobs they are rather than as a full household move.
Semigration and inbound moves
A steady share of Winelands work is people relocating to the Cape from Gauteng and elsewhere, often buying in Stellenbosch, Paarl or Somerset West. Where the inbound leg comes from outside our 250km range we handle the Western Cape side of it: receiving, storage if the dates do not line up, and the final delivery into the new house.
Our container storage is at the Pinelands yard, which is useful on these moves because transfer dates and arrival dates rarely match exactly.
Wine, and other things that need care
It would be strange to move people around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek without moving wine. Private cellars need to travel upright, packed properly, and out of the heat, which in a Cape summer means an early start rather than a mid-afternoon load. Tell us if there is a cellar and roughly how many cases, and we will plan the load around it.
